We hope you enjoy your stay at Durham City Cottages. We aim to provide welcoming, relaxed and comfortable rooms in a lovely village setting that's very close to Durham city but moments away from open countryside leading to the Durnam Dales.

The following FAQs provides everything you need to know before arrival and during your stay. If you need any assistance or have any questions during your stay, we are on hand to help.

  • Why stay here instead of a hotel in Durham?

Each of our cottages has been creatively designed to maximise space and offers extras that set them apart from standard hotel rooms. Every cottage has a private entrance with a parking space (or two) outside the door. In the welcoming living area there is a fitted kitchen with hob, oven, dishwasher and small appliances including Nespresso compatible coffee machine. Our Courtyard and Superior cottages each include a washing machine and private enclosed garden space. Rest on the sofa and watch a film or catch up on your favourite programmes on the wall-mounted TV. There's a desk for working plus table and chairs. The separate bedroom has a king-size bed, ample storage and ensuite shower room. Accessible from mid afternoon, you can self-check in at a time to suit you (code for key lock box provided prior to arrival. Located in a quiet village just a few miles from Durham city centre on the edge of open countryside, enjoy a drink or meal in the pub next door.

  • Booking process

When you make a booking, whether it's direct on this website or by contacting us, or via one of the global platforms such as Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia, Cottages.com etc, you will receive a confirmation with introductory information about your upcoming stay. We will send out a reminder and check in information at least 1 day prior to your arrival date and also message you with your room number and key lock box code.

  • Arrival & departure information

You will receive an email reminder of your booking 7 days prior, if booked direct, and again 1 day prior to arrival. This may vary if you book through one of the portals (Airbnb, booking.com etc). This will contain our check in procedure and who to get in touch with if necessary.

Upon departure, please ensure you remove all your personal possessions and leave behind anything you find in the room such as hair dryers, linens and towels, self-catering provisions, glasses, mugs etc (you'd be surprised!). Return your key to the lock box and scramble the code.

We do not offer breakfast and unless you are staying in one of the cottage rooms, there are no facilities available for making meals. However, there are a number of excellent cafes serving breakfast locally, including The Daisymill Coffee Shop in Langley Moor, just over a mile away.
